Madeleine Brown is a Graphic Designer born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Bowie, Maryland. Of Haitian and Jamaican descent, she proudly honors her roots, with her mother’s side from Haiti and her father’s side from Jamaica. Madeleine has been attending Haitian Ladies Weekend with the women in her family since 2018, deepening her love for Haitian culture and community.
With a mission to design digital products, physical tools, or spaces that foster social connectedness, Madeleine is currently working on independent projects and client work for Next Level Health Innovations and Designing Equity. In the Spring of 2024, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design at the George Washington University, holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design.
Cycy has been volunteering with HLN since 2016. Her Haitian culture permeates every aspect of her life, from her humor to her favorite foods, and values. She is interested in behavioral science, particularly at the intersection of culture, psychology, and science. She is a student at St. Stephen's School in Italy.
Thajhea Desir is a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Howard University. Passionate about social change and communal engagement, she joined the Haitian Ladies Network in 2023 as a member on the Next-Gen Board. During her first year on the board, she served as a moderator for the Next-Gen panel, “Digital Personal Branding: Strategies for Success.”
She wants to leverage her role to emphasize the importance of cultural preservation of Haitian traditions in a time of great political unrest. Additionally, she wants to highlight the impactful contributions and achievements of the Haitian diaspora.
Apart from her work with Haitian Ladies Network, she is a fierce advocate for racial equality and aspires to pursue a career in law.
Sheinya Joseph is an urban and architectural designer based in Washington, DC. Born and raised in the Boston area with parents from Petion-Ville, she graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Minor in Entrepreneurship. Passionate about education and community service, she enjoys teaching and inspiring students in marginalized communities about architecture. She fulfills several mentorship roles for undergraduate students at the University of Maryland and currently holds leadership positions in both a non-profit and architectural professional organization. During her leisure time, you can find her reading a book, traveling, or cooking new recipes. She has been involved in HLN since 2022 and is a member of the Next Gen Board.
My name is Chloé Laplanche and I am 18 years old. I was born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I am currently pursuing my bachelor's degree of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business at Florida Atlantic University. I am also one of the Co-Owner of La Peluca Haircare Studio in Haiti. Though I was raised in Port-au-Prince, I had the privilege of traveling to the North and South of Haiti. In 2022, I learned about the Haitian Ladies Network as I was invited to be a speaker in the Gen-Z section. Now, I am honored to be part of the NextGen board as I want to promote positivity and hope in Haiti.
Coralie Nader is a marketing and creative consultant. Raised in Port-au-Prince by parents from Gonaïves, she is passionate about celebrating Haitian women and the collective advancement of all Haitians. She attended her first Haitian Ladies Weekend in 2022 and joined the NextGen Board in 2023. She enjoys the community that Haitian Ladies Network fosters.
Kya Pierre-Dawkins was born and raised in Washington D.C and is currently a student at Boston University studying Finance and Strategy. She is an active member on campus including involvement in DEI initiatives, student government, and professional development-centric organizations.
Kya attended her first Haitian Ladies Network brunch when she was nine years old in 2012. At the age of sixteen, she spoke at the 2019 symposium and led several of the first “Next-Gen” breakout sessions. She is currently a member of the “Next-Gen” sub-committee
Edna Ulysse, 23, is from Orlando, FL. She graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She currently lives in Washington D.C., where she works as a legislative staffer in the U.S. House of Representatives. With parents hailing from Port-de-Paix and Léogâne, she recalls frequently visiting their hometown and immersing herself in the wonderful culture and cuisine in her younger years.
Edna has been involved with HLN since 2021, first volunteering at the 2021 HLN Weekend. Passionate about wanting to unite the younger generation of Haitian women, she officially became a board member in 2023. During her tenure, she has enjoyed bringing many ideas and thoughts to life in effort to serve a community that is near and dear to her heart.
